Low Gravity Racer 2 – But you can call it LGR.
This is the second iteration of the game but this is my first interaction with it. I was attracted to it because of my love of the Wipeout series for the Playstation. Same concept really, low gravity ships on a track with weapons. To me that equals fun. This app didn’t disappoint me. It has everything I’m looking for in a game of this type.
The basic idea of the game is you take one part fighter jet and one part race car and you get this game. You hover above a track allowing you to roll to the left and right slightly to aid with turning. Yet you still have to follow the course like a race car would. You get to pick up weapons along the way for slowing down who ever is ahead of you but beware because it will come back to haunt you once you pass them. As you can see on the game play screen you have some information on the screen that most of the time you’re going to be too busy to look at, well at least I was too busy.
You’ve got information about speed, lap, position, time, boost and shields. The controls are very straight forward. Tilt left or right to turn in that direction. You have a brake in the middle of the left side of the screen. You’ll have a fire button on the middle of the right side when you pick one up. You can also pick up speed boosts and shield uppers, both of which last for a limited time so you best use them wisely. You can only pick up one weapon at a time but you can pick up a speed boost or shields while you have a weapon which is a nice touch.
The main menu holds what you would expect. You can play a regular game, a time trail, get help or go to options. This game is part of the Plus+ network of games whereas you can create a profile that will track your progress across all Plus+ games.
The options screen has, again, what would be expected with one exception, the ability to use your own music. Bravo! Beyond that you have the volume controls a steering sensitivity setting and the view (cockpit or ship).
Low Gravity Racer 2 is a great little race game. With multiple tracks and ships to choose from you’ll have a good bit of play to truly master this app. Well worth the price.
Cost: $2.99
