Echofon – Echofon (see what I did there?)

All right, I’m back from a break and I wanted to kick off with a bang. So I have chosen Echofon to start off with and I think it’s a great way to begin. I had my reservations about it because I was already married to Tweetie 2 and was using Twibit to get push notifications. What more could I need? How about one program to do both? Oh yeah! I took the advice of a friend and took a look. I was not disappointed.

Home Screen

I have to say that once I heard that Echofon did push notifications I was a little more on board with giving it a try, but I was still thinking there was no way that it was going to replace Tweetie 2. I loaded up the app and put in my various Twitter accounts and away I went. Well actually I left the app and didn’t do anything with it for a week or two. Until I realized that I wasn’t getting any push notifications from Echofon. I was only getting the ones through Twitbit. This is really what started me playing with the app more.

Account Settings

It was once I realized that it was my own fault for not fully activating the push feature that I begin to truly understand what sets this app apart from the others. Syncing! Echofon syncs your read messages across any and all devices and computers you have configured to sync up with the Echofon servers. The iPhone app, the Firefox plugin, Echofon for the Mac, etc. Now that I had a better understanding I was starting to warm up to this app.

I began getting my beloved push notifications immediately. I was then faced with a decision… What to do with all of these extra Twitter apps. Echofon has all of the Twitter features needed: Lists, Search, Trending Topics, and on and on. I do think they could have made it a little more obvious that there is an extra step involved with getting the notifications to work, but maybe I just missed it.

Now Echofon has even kicked Tweetie 2 off of my home screen! I just wish that it didn’t cost as much as it does.
