SwingSwing Christmas Edition – I know it’s over
This app was brought to my attention and at first I didn’t want to do a review on it because the holiday has already passed. Who would want to hear about a game with a Christmas Carol in it in the middle of January? Fortunately, I decided to take a look at it. Maybe it was fate or the fact that it’s free, I don’t know, but I downloaded it and I’m really glad that I did. As you’re going to see, this little game has the potential to do great things.
Having had a discussion with the person that brought this to my attention, it appears that this is already popular overseas and it’s just now making it’s way to the states. This is its first appearance on our shores. So it’s a limited free version with only one song and it’s a christmas carol.
There are three levels of play and I’m still enjoying the easy level but I hope by now you have come to know that I’m horrible with games and very rarely make it beyond easy mode. For me, this game has been entertaining and challenging enough for me not to need the harder levels. If my explanation isn’t doing it for you there is a ‘How to Play’ option from the main menu that does a decent job.
All right, here it is, the game play. As you can see there is a circle with four colored dots on it at the top, bottom and sides. You’ll also noticed that there are colored dots in the circle that match a color on the circle. The object is to tilt the phone in the direction of the color as the dot (of that color) passes over. You collect points based on your timing, so stay on beat with the music. Now, I did notice that in the easy setting the dots automatically gravitate to their correct colors, I can only imagine that in harder levels this, autopilot if you will, does not occur.
Okay, I just tried to play a hard level and the auto pilot is still on, but it’s chaotic. The circle rotates ever so often and the dots coming out of the center are exploding out like bees from a disturbed hive.
I’m really putting this game out there because I thoroughly enjoy the game play design and can’t wait to see what other music they come out with. I think if they are wise they might do something similar to Tap Tap Revenge and offer a lot of different tracks that you could purchase, but that might be a lot of work with the record labels and lawyers. Regardless, I can’t wait for this to come out with more music. Keep an eye on this one!
