Textexpander – Broaden your text horizons
We should all be familiar with the concept of an auto correction feature, either on the computer or on the iPhone. Well, what if you could control what it auto corrected and even add your own corrections? Well you can! Textexpander allows you to do more than just auto correct mis-spellings and a case of the lazy fingers. You can create short cuts for yourself for commonly typed items. Like a signature or html code. It’s really only limited to your imagination, all right that might be a stretch but I think you get the idea.
Textexpander gives you the control. If you want to type “sig” and have it replaced with your signature, Textexpander can do that for you. Let’s say you often mistype the word “signature” (you type it “singature”) you can have this app correct it.
All of this sound really cool? Well it is if you can figure it out. Right now I’m struggling to get the app to change anything. Okay, so I feel a little silly now because of the fact that you have to turn on the feature in Tweetie 2. Once you do that it works great! Now, something has occured to me, in an application where you only have 140 characters you might not want text to be expanded! Although if you have a tweet you type often enough, you could create a text shortcut for it. I was finally able to get things working in the App. It seems to have a problem when the phone auto capitalizes the first character but you undo that.
So all that user error aside, I think this app would be great for the frequent emailer, texter or tweeter. Anyone else would not truly be able to benefit. Given the steep price of $4.99, I’m going to say that only the hard core user might get this or the person that is addicted to having it on the Mac.
Cost: $4.99
